Being strongly featured by pungent and scurrying and with strong action of inducing resuscitation and removing obstruction, it is regarded as an important herb to refresh the mind. It can be indicated for both cold block and heat block. For heat block, it is usually combined with heat-clearing and toxicity-relieving herbs, heart-heat-clearing and resuscitation-inducing herbs and heat-clearing and phlegm-resolving herbs.

This herb can remove the stasis in the blood, and dredge obstructions in the meridian, so it has the action of activating blood to dredge the meridian and alleviate pain. It can be indicated for many blood stasis diseases and be combined with herbs that have the actions of activating blood, moving qi and alleviating pain according to symptoms.

ANGELICA- Tonify blood, activate blood, alleviate pain, regulate menstruation, and moisten intestines. It is an essential herb in gynecology and indicated for irregular menstruation, amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea because it can tonify blood, activate blood, regulate menstruation and alleviate pain. It is especial in these symptoms due to blood deficiency, blood stasis and cold congealment.

It is mainly indicated for various gestational and labor diseases caused by heat accumulation and blood stasis so it is named "mother-benefiting". When it is indicated for syndrome of blood stasis such as traumatic injuries, swelling and pain due to stasis and stagnation and chest oppression and pain, the actions of its activating blood and resolving stasis as well as swelling-resolving and pain-alleviating are shown. For amenorrhea due to stasis, dysmenorrhea, unsmooth menstruating, irregular menstruation, postpartum abdominal stagnant pain and lochiorrhea, it is used singly by its actions of activating blood, resolving stasis and regulating menstruation, for instance, Yi Mu Cao Gao from the Pharmacopeia of China (1985 edition).

It is widely indicated for all kinds of diseases and .syndromes caused by blood stasis accumulation and obstruction. It is indicated for irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea and postpartum abdominal pain due to blood stasis accumulation and obstruction of women. This herb serves as the key gynecological herb for activating blood and regulating menstruation because it can activate blood and regulate menstruation, unblock blood vessels and dispel blood stasis. It is mostly suitable for gynecological diseases and syndromes caused by blood heat and stasis accumulation because it is cold and cool in nature that confers it the action of cooling blood.
